Kathrein Demonstrates a High Level of Project Expertise in Broadcast Technology
As a reference project for its extensive planning, integration and other services, the company will be showcasing the new Çamlica Tower in Istanbul at its trade fair stand (Hall 8, Stand 8.C24). The 340-metre structure replaces several broadcasting facilities on Çamlica Hill: it will be possible to broadcast more than 160 digital and analog channels from here in future. Kathrein was awarded the contract for planning and implementing a turnkey antenna solution for the new television tower by system integrator Cestron last spring.
In addition to the Broadcast Business Unit, Kathrein Group companies as well as external partners are also involved in the project: the Italian company SIRA, a member of the Kathrein Group, has produced the industry’s biggest FM combiner, while a Kathrein partner is supplying UHF/VHF combiners. A team from the Romanian company Romkatel, another member of the Kathrein Group, is taking care of system integration.
Kathrein Smart Monitoring to be deployed
Technological features of the Çamlica Tower will include the innovative Kathrein Smart Monitoring system. This allows broadcasting station operators to directly identify and localise technical problems in their systems. Kathrein Smart Monitoring uses sensors in the antenna system to record all the main operating parameters in real time. The data is protocolled along with weather parameters and then analysed.
This allows disruptions to be identified early on and frequently avoided before they impair operation or result in failure. The broadcasting station operator can conveniently retrieve measurement results via network access and receives an alarm message in the event of a defined breakdown. The Çamlica set-up will include 150 sensors, making it the world’s first installation on this scale.
Reference project for unique service expertise
“The Çamlica project is crucial to us for a number of reasons,” says Georg Hollmann, Head of Kathrein’s Broadcast Business Unit. “We’re not only supplying our high-quality, pioneering technology for this building – we’re also demonstrating our unique service expertise.”
Joint portfolio presented by Kathrein and SIRA
For the first time, Kathrein jointly presents various solutions for broadcasting applications with SIRA. The antennas, combiners and coaxial components made by the Italian company extend Kathrein’s well-established portfolio. They meet the company’s high quality standards and offer excellent value for money.
“We want to offer our customers a broader range and more options from a single source,” explains Jörg Lippert, who is responsible for sales of both brands. “This will enable us to meet the wide-ranging demands of our customers all over the world even better and strengthen our international presence.”
