Kathrein Introduces Innovative Broadcast Solutions at the CommunicAsia

At the flagship event for communications technology in Asia, Kathrein introduced, amongst other interesting innovations, new broadcast antenna systems. More than 30,000 visitors came to the CommunicAsia in Singapore to find out about the latest technologies from 1100 exhibitors from 49 countries.

For Kathrein, a leading international specialist for communication technologies, the trendsetting radio and TV standards DAB+ and DVB-T2 were among the main topics in the field of broadcast antennas. “The digitisation of terrestrial radio and TV is advancing all over the world. TV viewers make ever increasing demands on programme variety and quality, e.g. high definition television or HDTV,” explains Wolfgang Niedhammer, Director Sales and Marketing, Broadcast Antennas, at Kathrein. “Apart from the stationary reception of broadcast signals, mobile reception is gaining more and more importance. We already developed the products and solutions that our customers will need and we introduced these innovations at the exhibition.”

Digital technology is often referred to as “green technology”, as it consumes considerably less energy than analogue signal distribution. To guarantee this, you need efficient and economical antennas that are quick and easy to install. Kathrein’s newly introduced Cavity Slot Antenna meets all these criteria and received great interest from the visitors, says Mr Niedhammer. There were promising talks regarding projects in India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand. A contract concerning a major project to deliver Kathrein broadcast antennas to Vietnam is about to be concluded.
