Kathrein Provides Digital Programme Diversity to AccorHotels
AccorHotels state that some 85% of their guests use smart phones and the Internet on a large scale. Adding to this, the number of digital end devices, such as tablets and laptops, is increasing. Information and entertainment options in hotels are no longer restricted to radio and TV programmes only. Especially in areas of high population density, such as Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, broadband cable networks are however reaching their limits. This issue was resolved by introducing the fully digitised headend technology, which integrates all hotels of the AccorHotels Group into a uniform network.
“The high quality of the components used ensures the highest possible stability of the entire network and low maintenance costs,“ explains Erich Rock, Kathrein’s Head of Satellite Reception. It proved a big advantage for their collaboration that AccorHotels had already relied on Kathrein’s expertise in the past for the installation of numerous headend systems at their brand-name hotels, e.g. ibis, Mercure, Novotel and Pullman.
Largest possible programme diversity and high efficiency
“We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable in our hotels. This means that they must be able to rely on the convenience and availability of modern media,” states Frank Schedler, AccorHotels‘ Vice President IT and Digitalization Central Europe. “It goes without saying that we make the entire diversity of TV programmes, mostly in HD, and a great bandwidth of international infotainment media, or the access thereto, available to our guests.”
The AccorHotels Group attached great importance to getting a system that could be maintained remotely and programmed with little effort. As the system features a presorted list of programmes, it is not necessary to spend time sorting the programmes at the individual hotels. “We can minimise the on-site work and can react quickly whenever we get a request from one of the hotels,” says Frank Schedler. Using the Kathrein system puts them in an “optimal position” to deal with further increasing future requirements.
