Kathrein wins two German Design Awards
The new Brasília TV tower, which is a steel concrete construction, is located in north-east Brasília on the highest point of the metropolitan area. It was designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, the pioneer of modern Brazilian architecture. The tower’s architectural style is reminiscent of a flower, which is why it is called “Flor do Cerrado”. A Kathrein broadcast antenna system can be found at the top of the 224 metre tower. The system was delivered in late 2013 and installed in mid-March 2014 right before the world-famous Rio Carneval. Installation and commissioning was carried out by Kathrein engineers on site.
On the other side of the Atlantic the Berlin fan mile dominated the 17th June Street between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Roughly 700 metres in length, it provided enough space to accommodate 100,000 fans, who in turn were able to connect with the rest of the world thanks to a modern mobile communications infrastructure provided by Kathrein. Coverage was guaranteed by 20 antennas for 20 sectors on ten street lantern sites all set up in a cell radius of less than 100 metres for the smallest possible cells.
