Restructuring of Kathrein Group Largely Completed

Kathrein has finalised the sale of its antenna and filter business to Swedish information and communication technology provider Ericsson. The Group’s remaining business units were spun off into independent companies: KATHREIN Solutions GmbH, KATHREIN Sachsen GmbH, KATHREIN Digital Systems GmbH and KATHREIN Broadcast GmbH.

Following the announcement of the sale of KATHREIN SE’s mobile communication antenna and filter business to Ericsson on February 25, the sale was officially finalised on September 30, 2019, after all regulatory approval procedures had been completed. The acquisition expands Ericsson’s radio system portfolio with a wide range of advanced antenna solutions. It also adds nearly 3,500 Kathrein employees worldwide to Ericsson’s workforce.

“We are very happy that the sale transaction is completed. It will ensure the future viability and competitiveness of this important business,” says Hans-Joachim Ziems, who has been responsible for restructuring the Kathrein Group since the end of 2017. He will now move from the Executive Board to the Supervisory Board of KATHREIN SE.

As of this year, the spin-offs KATHREIN Solutions, KATHREIN Sachsen, KATHREIN Digital Systems und KATHREIN Broadcast have been operating as independent companies. KATHREIN Solutions GmbH, a specialist for RFID and IoT solutions based in Munich, Ismaning and Stephanskirchen, is managed by Thomas Brunner and Daniel Schkalda. KATHREIN Sachsen GmbH, focusing on developing and manufacturing services for high frequency technology, has its headquarters in Mühlau and will remain under the management of Daniel Schkalda. KATHREIN Digital Systems GmbH, market leader for the digital reception of satellite, terrestrial, cable or IP signals and their distribution in buildings and caravans, stays in Rosenheim under the management of Michael Auer and Uwe Thumm. KATHREIN Broadcast GmbH, a specialist for broadcast transmission systems headed by Georg Hollmann and Jörg Lippert, will also remain in the region.
