Project partners Kathrein and Rohde & Schwarz have reached two important milestones of the 5G TODAY research project: Kathrein completed an innovative antenna for test operation at BR’s transmitter site in Ismaning near Munich. In addition, a Rohde & Schwarz transmitter successfully went into operation at Bayerischer Rundfunk’s (BR) Wendelstein transmitter station. The specially developed Kathrein antenna and the high-power transmitter are part of the LTE Broadcast test transmission.The 5G TODAY project is funded by the Bavarian Research Foundation and led by the Institute for Broadcasting Technology, IRT. Further project partners are Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) and Telefónica Germany.

Kathrein is driving forward the expansion of mobile communication networks in Bavaria together with their partner Deutsche Telekom. Bavaria’s head of state Markus Söder (CSU) came to Inning/Ammersee to hear about the telecommunications company’s plans. At the event, Kathrein presented an ultra-compact antenna system, which Telekom plans to deploy at numerous mobile communication sites.

Kathrein demonstrates in Barcelona its technological competency in the field of 5G research, the future mobile communication standard. At the Mobile World Congress 2018, the company showcases, among other things, an innovative antenna system which combines 5G-ready MIMO technology with current mobile technology standards such as LTE (4G). In addition, Kathrein presents its Network Vision 2022 in an interactive animation, mobile communication solutions for indoor and outdoor areas, as well as automotive antenna solutions.

A new regional customer experience centre has been opened in Bengaluru, one of the biggest cities in India with an estimated population of more than 10 million, in the presence of business partners, customers and media representatives. The step is part of a strategy to strengthen Kathrein’s presence in India and the Asia-Pacific region and to expand the solution and service business worldwide.

Press image Cross-Licence Agreement with Kathrein and CommScope

Kathrein and CommScope, industry leaders in network infrastructure solutions, have entered into a long-term global agreement to cross-license portions of their patent portfolios, increasing each company’s ability to develop new solutions, serve customers and compete in the global market. Under the agreement, both companies can access and implement the other company’s patents and technologies globally. The cross-licence agreement relates to passive base station antennas, distributed antenna systems (DAS) and filters.
