Kathrein Integrates Mobile Communication into Ad Space
Kathrein Inside Connect is a modular antenna system: the simple plug-in system allows multiple configurations by just sticking the modules together. The components have a compact and flat design and can be incorporated into all sorts of street furniture. This guarantees easy access to power and to the fixed networks. Depending on the number of modules that are built in, a radius of up to 300 m can be covered.
Advertising structures as platforms for improved connectivity
JCDecaux is developing solutions to ease small cell integration in its advertising structures for mobile network operators. "JCDecaux’s street furniture programmes have been providing valued services to cities for over 50 years. Today these programmes are a platform to provide better connectivity and digital services solutions. There is a rapidly increasing demand of reliable and powerful connectivity in cities, but multi small cell and aesthetic integration are difficult challenges", says Marc Merlini, Business Development Director of JCDecaux Link. His business unit exclusively deals with the development of connectivity solutions. JCDecaux has already deployed small cells in Europe and the United States of America for operators like Vodafone and Verizon and is extending this activity to other geographies based on its presence in 76 countries.
With the mobile communication solution Kathrein Inside Connect, the company wants to further extend this trend-setting branch of business. "The partnership with Kathrein has been a very professional and proactive one right from the start. The Kathrein solution perfectly meets our requirements for multi small cell and aesthetic integration. The antennas can easily be integrated into our street furniture, providing dedicated passive infrastructure for each mobile network operator. Their plug-in design allows a very flexible configuration and extension", elaborates Merlini.
High tech built into a minimum of space
With this system, Kathrein expands its portfolio in the field of small cells, proving again its competence to realise individual and innovative solutions. "Our developers managed to squeeze the necessary technology into a very confined space to comply with our customers’ requirements", explains Manuel Mielke, Product Manager at Kathrein. The system was recently introduced to the public at the Viva Technology Event in Paris at the JCDecaux stand.
